In 2019, USABA became a member organization of US Soccer. As a part of the US Soccer ADAPTandTHRIVE Working Group, USABA athlete Cody Kirchner represents Blind Soccer.
In February of 2020, USABA was honored with a grant from the US Soccer Federation to support our new initiative, Building Blind Soccer. The primary goal of the blind soccer program is to furnish individuals who are blind or visually impaired access to a recreational sport that will provide them with physical exercise, participation on a team, mobility, independence and socialization. With USABA’s vision of every American who is blind or visually impaired leading a healthy lifestyle by actively participating in sports, recreation and physical activity, the Building Blind Soccer program will provide an additional avenue for young persons to access an adapted team sport. Through the development and ultimate expansion of the Building Blind Soccer program, USABA envisions many targeted communities offering soccer programs for hundreds and even thousands of persons who are visually impaired.
