
Malmö, Sweden – The USA Goalball Women’s National Team completed a strong showing at the Malmö Lady Intercup, finishing fifth overall against a competitive international field. The three day tournament provided an important early season test as the team continues to build cohesion and prepare for the upcoming world championship tournament in Hangzhou China next month.
Team USA opened the tournament with a five to two victory over Great Britain. Amanda Dennis led the offense with three goals, while Eliana Mason and Asya Miller each added one in a balanced performance. In the second match of the day, the United States was narrowly defeated by Japan six to five in one of the closest contests of the tournament. Dennis recorded four goals and Mason added another as the team battled throughout.
The Americans responded in dominant fashion to close out pool play, defeating Ukraine twelve to two. Dennis scored five goals and Lisa Czechowski added four, while Miller, Mason, and Hailey Andress each contributed one goal. The result secured Team USA’s place in the quarterfinal round.
In the knockout stage, the United States faced Brazil and fell four to zero in the quarterfinals. The team rebounded in the fifth place match with a five to three win over South Korea. Asya Miller led the scoring with three goals, and Amanda Dennis added two to help secure the victory and a fifth place finish.
The Malmö Lady Intercup served as a valuable opportunity for Team USA to compete against top international opponents while continuing to develop team chemistry and execution in high level match play. The experience gained throughout the tournament will be critical as the team prepares for the upcoming World Championship in China next month.
With a strong foundation in place, the USA Goalball Women’s National Team will look to build on this performance as they continue their progression toward future international success and the long term goal of the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.
The USA Goalball Women’s National Team will next compete at the 2026 IBSA Goalball World Championships in Hangzhou, China, taking place June 5 through June 15, 2026.
