2016 Youth Goalball Nationals Results

This weekend, the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (St. Augustine, FL) hosted USABA’s 25th Annual Youth Goalball Nationals. Fifteen teams from across the nation competed for national titles. Florida Cobras, Texas Wildcats and Utah Rage topped the girl’s category, respectively. Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired’s Wildcats also won the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Six girls were named All-Americans, a distinction made by tournament organizers and coaches for exceptional play. Vanessa Coleman (Florida), Demetria Ober (Texas), Aaliyah Ferguson (Florida), Elisabeth Chantry (Utah), Ta’lia Woodward (Texas), and Nikitta Duckworth (Georgia) were all named All-Americans on Saturday. Vanessa was also named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Virginia Chiefs, Texas Wildcats and Florida Cobras topped the boy’s category, respectively. Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Chiefs won the Team Sportsmanship Award in addition to their gold medal and national title.

Six boys were named All-Americans: Sean Walker (Virginia), Davieon Perez (Texas), Tyrone Brotherton (Virginia), Jordan Main (Texas), Jacob Sorenson (Utah) and Emmitt Johnson (Florida). Sean Walker was also named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

Girls:

Gold – Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Florida Cobras
Silver – Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired’s Texas Wildcats
Bronze – Utah Rage
4th place – Georgia Academy for the Blind’s Georgia Panthers
5th place – Washington State School for the Blind’s Washington Lionesses
6th place – New York Institute for Special Education’s New York Stars
7th place – Alabama School for the Blind’s Alabama Redskins

Boys:

Gold – Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Virginia Chiefs
Silver – Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired’s Texas Wildcats
Bronze – Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind’s Florida Cobras
4th place – Utah Havoc
5th place – Lakeshore Foundation
6th place – South Carolina School for the Deaf and the Blind’s South Carolina Hornets
7th place – Alabama School for the Blind’s Alabama Redskins
8th place – Georgia Academy for the Blind’s Georgia Panthers

The 2017 Youth Goalball National Championships will take place at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired in Austin, Texas.
