Five Students Awarded 2016 USABA Scholarships

Each year, thanks to the generosity of the I C You Foundation and Arthur & Helen Copeland, USABA offers scholarships to members who exhibit exceptional drive in athletic achievement and educational endeavors. We are proud to present the I C You Foundation Valor Achievement Award to three students this year due to additional support from Paralympian Markeith Price’s foundation. We are also proud to present the Arthur E. & Helen Copeland scholarships to one male student and one female student who demonstrate a passion bettering themselves through sport and education. Accessible Technology Empowers Blind Americans to Get Moving

As children, we are introduced to sport and physical activity through physical education curriculums in grade school. We learn leadership and teamwork, and gain self-esteem and confidence through participation in sports. We experience the thrill of victory and the heartbreak of defeat which fuels a competitive spirit in those of us that go on to compete at a higher level. (July 26, 2016) – The United States Association of Blind Athletes (USABA) is sending three powerlifters to compete in the 15th Annual Rocky Mountain State Games; Charles King (Philadelphia, Penn.), local athlete, Thomas Monroe (Pueblo, Colo.) and Dan Finan (Omaha, Neb.). Women’s Goalball Heads to the Gold Medal Game, Men’s to the Bronze Game

The U.S. Women’s National Team (4-3) is booking their tickets to the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016 after winning 1-0 against Japan (5-2) and advancing to the gold medal match tomorrow. The Men’s National Team (5-3-1) is just one win away from securing their spot in Rio as well after they lost 3-6 to Finland (7-1-1) and will play in the bronze medal game. Groundbreaking for Goalball Resident Program

June 24, 2016 - Fort Wayne, IN The United States Association of Blind Athletes and Turnstone broke ground this morning on permanent housing for the U.S. Men’s Goalball Resident Program in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The project will include two houses with six bedrooms each that will be used for six resident athletes and visiting athletes from around the world. Established last October, the U.S. Men’s Goalball Resident Program allows six athletes and a resident coach to train full-time and live together – something Team USA counterparts like Lithuania and Brazil have had for some time.
