2015 Parapan Ams – Day Five: U.S. Women Defend Title, U.S. Men Shutout Competition


By: Courtney Patterson TORONTO (August 12, 2015) – The U.S. Women’s Goalball Team defended their World title while the Men put up their first shutout of the tournament against Puerto Rico. The U.S. Men’s Team took a cue from the U.S. Women and shutout Puerto Rico this morning, 10-0, with less than 2 minutes remaining in the first half. 2015 Parapan Ams – Day Four: U.S. Women’s Goalball Team shuts out third Americas team


TORONTO – The U.S. Women’s Goalball Team produced a third shutout while the U.S. Men’s Goalball Team had us on the edge of our seats. Offense prevailed in the Women’s game against Guatemala this morning as the women shutout another Americas team, 10-0, in the first half. Parapan new-comers, Eliana Mason (Beaverton, Ore.) and Marybai Huking (Plain City, Utah), both became more familiar with the court. “The whole experience has been really cool and amazing. 2015 Parapan Ams – Day Three: U.S. Teams Fall to Brazil

Both Men’s and Women’s goalball teams lost preliminary round robin games to next year’s Paralympic Games host, Brazil. The U.S. Men played first this morning, against the defending World Champions. The team started off strong with a goal from Matthew Simpson (Smyrna, Ga.) and a penalty shot from Joseph Hamilton (Sacramento, Calif.). The score was tied 2-2 at 5:30 in the first half. Shortly after Simpson’s goal, Brazil’s Leomon Moreno da Silva came back with two quick pitches back-to-back. 2015 Parapan Ams – Day Two: Success for Men’s and Women’s Goalball Teams

Men’s and Women’s goalball teams produced wins in round robin preliminary play this afternoon at the 2015 Parapan American Games at Mississauga Sports Complex. The Women’s team remained undefeated with another quick 10-0 victory in their game against Nicaragua. The game ended with 4:30 left in the first half. "I think it went well,” said team member Asya Miller (Portland, Ore.). “We were accomplishing what we were doing, working on our accuracy, doing our defense, and making sure everyone was good and comfortable with the court." 2015 Parapan Ams – Day One: Debuts for Women and Rivalries for Men

Men’s and Women’s goalball teams began round robin preliminary play at this afternoon at the 2015 Parapan American Games. The Women’s team is favored as the defending world champions while the Men’s team is considered strong after also qualifying for 2016 Rio Paralympic Games next summer. Both teams are a mix of experienced Paralympians and up and coming talent. Men’s and Women’s National Goalball Teams played back-to-back games this afternoon in Toronto at the 2015 Parapan American Games.
