Tokyo Paralympians Win 16 Medals in Visually Impaired Categories


At the recently-concluded Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Team USA competed in a total of 241 events across 19 sport disciplines. The U.S. won a total of 37 gold, 36 silver and 31 bronze medals, and 129 athletes came home with hardware. This year's team consisted of 242 athletes, including 37 with visual impairments and six guides. In sports and categories for athletes with visual impairments, Team USA captured 16 medals, including four gold, seven silver and five bronze. Rematch of Rio 2016 bronze medal game once again goes in U.S. favor TOKYO, Japan (Aug. 25, 2021) – Picking right up where they left off five years ago, the USA Women’s Goalball Team opened the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games with a 6-4 victory over Brazil.
